Personality of Martin L. Gore (extract)
Introduction

Here are some character traits from Martin L. Gore's birth chart. This description is far from complete but can shed light on his/her personality which is still interesting for the professionals or lovers of astrology. N.B.: The birth time is unknown, so the chart is drawn for 12 pm - the legal time of his/her birth place; the astrological houses are not taken into account, this extract of astrological profile is therefore less detailed than the ones with a known birth time.

The dominant planets for Martin L. Gore

When interpreting a birth chart, the best method is to start gradually from the general features to the specific ones. Thus, there is usually a plan to follow; from the global analysis of the chart and its structure, to the description of the different character traits.

Firstly, the global analysis of the chart enables us to define the main personality features and emphasize some points that are confirmed or not in the detailed analysis : be that as it may, those general traits will have to be taken into account.

A human personality is an infinitely complex entity to describe and wanting to sum it up in a short way is illusory, but that does not mean it's an impossible challenge. Reading a birth chart several times is essential in order to soak up the different meanings and to grasp all this complexity. But the game is worth the candle.

The birth chart is diagrammatically composed of ten planets : two luminars, Sun and Moon, three fast moving or individual planets, Mercury, Venus and Mars, two slow moving planets, Jupiter and Saturn, and three very slow moving planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto. Other parts of the charts are : the secondary elements ( Lunar Nodes, the Dark Moon or Lilith, Chiron and other asteroids such as Vesta, Pallas, Ceres or Juno, particular bodies like the Arabic Parts, Vertex, the Black Sun, hypothetical planets, etc.) and 12 astrological houses, all positioned in a zodiac consisting of 12 signs from Aries to Pisces.

The importance of each planet must at first be estimated, that's what we call the search for the dominant planets. This search obeys rules that depend on the astrologer's sensitivity and experience but they also have a strong and clear basis : thus, we can take into account the parameters of a planet activity (the number of active aspects concerning a planet, the importance of each aspect depending on its nature and its accuracy), the parameters of angularity (the proximity to the 4 angles, Ascendant, Midheaven, Descendant and Immum Coeli or Nadir, all of this evaluated numerically according to the nature of the angle and the space between the latter and the planet) and the parameters of quality ( rulership, exaltation, exile and fall).

Finally, other criterias such as the rulership of the Ascendant and the Midheaven etc are important. This different criteria allows some planets to be valorised and leads to useful conclusions when interpreting the chart.

The global analysis of the chart begins by observing 3 planet distributions in the map :Eastern or Western hemisphere, Northern or Southern hemisphere, and quadrants (North-eastern, North-western, South-eastern and South-western). These 3 distributions give a general tone in terms of introversion and extraversion, of willpower and sociability and of certain behavioural predispositions.

We then have 3 other distributions : the elements (called triplicity since there are 3 groups of signs for each one) - Fire, Air, Earth and Water - corresponding to a character typology, modality (or quadruplicity with 4 groups of signs for each one) - Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable - and polarity (Yin and Yang).

There are then 3 types of dominants :dominant planets, dominant signs and dominant houses. The novice thinks astrology just means "to be Aries" or sometimes, for example, "to be Aries Ascendant Virgo". It is actually far more complex.

The Sun and the Ascendant themselves alone can indeed reveal a big part of the character- between around 30 and 60% according to the chart, however a person is neither "just the Sun" (what is called the sign) nor just "the first house" (the Ascendant). Thus, the influence of a particular planet can be greatly increased; a particular sign or house can contain a group of planets that will bring nuances and sometimes weaken the role of the Ascendant, the Sun sign etc.

Lastly, two other criteria; the accentuations (angular, succedent and cadent) which are a classification of the astrological houses and the types of decans that are occupied (each sign is divided into three decans of 10° each), will add some informations in this first general part. These eleven (or six if the birth time is unknown) general character traits must not be taken literally; they are, in a way, preparing for the reading of the chart.

They allow an understanding of the second part of the analysis which is more detailed and accurate and focuses on each personality aspects by establishing a hierarchy of planets, signs, houses and aspects.

Warning: When the birth time is unknown, which is the case for Martin, a certain number of paragraphs cannot be dealt; the distributions in hemispheres and quadrants are meaningless, so are the dominant houses and the houses accentuations.

Therefore, some chapters are removed from this part. For all paragraphs, the criteria for valorisation are calculated without the angles, the rulership of the Ascendant and the Midheaven. The calculation method is still valid, but it is less precise without the birth time.

Elements, modalities and polarities for Martin
Martin, here is the graph of your Elements, Modalities and Polarities, and Decans, made up according to the presence of planets and angles in the 12 signs:

Fire is dominant in your birth chart and makes you intuitive, energetic, courageous, self-confident and enthusiastic! You are passionately inclined and are able to assert your willpower, to go forward and ride against the tide, to reach your goals and your dreams. The relative weakness of this element is a kind of boldness and rashness that sometimes makes it difficult for you to stand back.

As with the majority of Earth signs, Martin, you are efficient, concrete, not too emotional. What matters to you is what you see: you judge the tree by its fruit. Your ideas keep changing, words disappear, but the acts and their consequences are visible and remain.

Express your sensitivity even if it means revealing your vulnerability. Emotions, energy and communication must not be neglected; concrete action is meaningless if it is not justified by your heart, intellect or enthusiasm.

The 12 zodiac signs are split up into three groups or modes, called quadruplicities, a clever name that simply means these three groups contain four signs. The Cardinal, Fixed and Mutable modes are more or less represented in your birth chart, according to the presence and importance of the planets and angles in the twelve signs.

The Mutable mode is the most pronounced in your birth chart which reveals a mobile character that is curious and thirsty for new experiences and evolution. You are lively and flexible, you like to react quickly to solicitations but don't confuse mobility with agitation, this is the danger with this configuration - and with you, there's no way of stagnating.

Security doesn't matter as long as you're not bored. You optimize, change things, change yourself... all of this in a speedy way.

The twelve signs are divided into two polarities, called active or passive, or sometimes masculine and feminine, positive and negative, Yang and Yin.

This classification corresponds to two quite distinct tonalities, the first one bringing extraversion, action, confidence and dynamism, the second one, introversion, reactivity, reflection and carefulness. One is not superior to the other, each group has its own assets and shortcomings. The odd signs - Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius - belong to the first group, whereas the even signs - Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces - belong to the second one. According to the disposition and qualities of your planets and angles, you're rather influenced by the YANG energy, the active polarity: more concerned by your actions than reflection, you sometimes rush without standing back and favouring depth which is yet necessary. However, your spontaneity prompts you to take fresh starts, even after repeated failures caused by your rashness. Each sign contains 30 degrees and can be divided into three equal parts: the decans. Tradition indicates that some meanings can be associated to these three decans. Their sphere of activity is usually limited to the Sun sign, it is however even more interesting to observe the distribution of all the planets in the chart to get an idea of the respective importance of the three decans which can complement the description of the personality. These significances must be taken into account with the greatest caution, this is indeed all about minor characteristics that can only stress other outstanding traits of character. Traditionally, the first decan accentuates the characteristics of the sign when a planet is located in it. The two other decans correspond to sub-dominant planets depending on the nature of each sign. This system leads to a multiplication of meanings and it is impossible to have a clear understanding: we prefer to give here just the meaning of one decan in comparison with the other two, in the birth chart as a whole. Again, the greatest caution is needed with regard to this minor indication which is not always reliable. The first decan, that's to say the part between 0 and 10° of the zodiac signs, is the majority in your birth chart: this decan is traditionally linked to vitality and physical constitution and possibly means you efficiently express your concrete energy on material and sensual matters. Dominants: planets, signs and houses for Martin The issue with the dominant planets has existed since the mists of time in astrology : how pleasant it would be to describe a person in some words by one or several planets simply representing their character without having to analyse all the aspects such as rulerships, angularities, houses etc! The 10 planets - from the Sun to Pluto - are a bit like 10 characters from a role play, each one with its own personality, its own way of acting, its own strengths and weaknesses. They actually represent a classification in 10 distinct personalities and astrologers have always tried to associate one or several dominant planets to a birth chart as well as dominant signs and houses. Indeed, it is somewhat the same with the signs and the houses. If the planets symbolize characters, the signs represent "colourations"- the mental, emotional and physical structures of an individual. Each planet in sign is like a character whose features would be modified according to the place he lives. In a chart, there are usually one, two or three significant signs making it easier to rapidly describe its owner. As for the astrological houses, the idea is even simpler: the 12 houses correspond to 12 fields of life and the planets occupying some of them will increase their importance and bring out some spheres of life : is it marriage ? work ? social life ? etc. In your birth chart, Martin, the 10 main planets are distributed in the following way: The three most important planets in your chart are Sun, Saturn and Jupiter. One of the dominant planets in your birth chart is the Sun that represents will, magnetism, sense of honour and dignity. The Solar being that you are is charismatic and often displays leadership qualities. You give off warmth and possess a persuasive power that steps you away from pettiness. You like to think big and consequently you go forward with what you decide. Your Solar weakness is sometimes to commit the sin of pride or to exaggerate authority. The frontier between pride and vanity is tenuous: be careful not to cross it and to keep the nobleness of heart that makes up part of your charm. Saturn makes up part of the dominant planets in your chart: among the facets of your character you have a grave and serious side, wise and somewhat severe as your concentration can be powerful to the detriment of carelessness and friendliness. You often look austere but that's just an appearance, a kind of modesty or reserve; but it is no less true that the Saturnian, who accepts effort, time, rigor, sobriety, may have a delicate popularity. He keeps the essential from superfluity. Nevertheless, honesty and straightforwardness, reliability, carefulness, depth, although not very popular and visible qualities, always eventually show and come to be appreciated. Saturnians usually blossom in the second part of their life rather than earlier. Like the Jupiterian, your Saturnian facet pushes you to look for what is essential in things, security, and longevity. However, the difference with the first one is that you'll never give priority to wealth or "the bigger, the better" philosophy for the sake of power. Saturn, like Jupiter, indicates social integration, and it's usually considered positive to possess a harmonic Jupiter and Saturn in one's chart because of this adaptation to society. Your vulnerability lies in a too serious and austere side that sometimes drives you to an unwanted loneliness and affective frustration. This generally does not last because Saturnians often hide deep in themselves a golden heart that ends up revealing itself... Jupiter, the planet of expansion, organisation, power and benevolence, is quite pronounced in your chart. Like any Jupiterian, you are warm, open, sociable, consensual and active. Optimistic, you can use your self-confidence to erase differences of opinions and leave the specialists the task of analysing and perfecting things. Your role, and you have known it since a young age, is to gather, to show your spirit of synthesis and conciliation and to naturally reap fruits of it - power. You appreciate legality, social order but also order in general. With you as a leader, every plan or human entity can be organised and structured. You excel at supervising. The Jupitarian type is indeed the politician per excellence and a positive Jupiter in a chart is synonymous of a good integration into society, whatever the chosen path. Is this idyllic picture really shadow less? Obviously not: each typology of planet has its own weaknesses. One of yours is pride, like the Solarian, but your will of expansion at all costs can generate a form of exaggeration for everything, endless pleasure, inappropriate confidence that could attract you to rough materialism, the thirst for an absurd material comfort - in the worst case naturally. In your birth chart, the three most important signs - according to criteria mentioned above - are in order Leo, Virgo and Sagittarius. Generally, these signs are important because your Ascendant or Sun is located in them. But this is not always the case: a pile of planets can be located in them, or a planet near an angle other than the Midheaven or Ascendant, when it's not simply because two or three planets are very active by the numerous aspects they make from these signs. You will thus borrow some of the characteristics of these three signs, a bit like a superposition of features on the rest of your chart, and this all the more if the sign is valorised. With Leo as a dominant sign, you naturally shine brightly and your dignity, sense of honour and generosity could almost make you pass for a solar hero from mythology, a knight or a lord from remote times. Some blame you for your selfishness, your pride or your somewhat showy authority, but if you're self-confident, kind-hearted and strong-willed, it surely makes up for your little flaws as long as they remain moderate... Virgo, associated with perfectionism, numbers and reason, is part of your dominant signs: from this you inherit a sense of responsibility and tidiness, a clear mind, an unfailing logic, a need to be useful and to reach the end of your task as best you can. Obviously, some may think you're too modest or reserved, suspicious or pessimistic because of your excessive critical mind, but aren't logic and wisdom great qualities? Of course they are and what's more, you keep your feet on the ground, never act irrationally and are helpful and hardworking - what more can you ask?! Sagittarius, an adventurous and conquering fire sign, is dominant in your chart: you are enthusiastic, undertaking, optimistic, very sociable and mobile - you have itchy feet both physically and mentally. Nobody is bored with you because you're always planning things and suggesting excursions, at least... when you're there and not already on a trip! Evidently, so much thrill in one man can scare people off and some could even blame this on your brutality or tendency to loose your temper, but you're so warm and genuine, so expansive, isn't this a good thing? And all the more so since your sense of humour is overwhelming... Conclusion This text is just an extract from of Martin's portrait. The astrological studies describe many of the character traits and sometimes go deeper into the understanding of a personality. It must not be forgotten that a person is in permanent evolution, some parts of her psychological structure can reveal themselves later, after having lived some strong experiences in her life. It is advised to read a portrait with hindsight, only then is it possible to take advantage of a reading in this kind of study. Analysing an astrological portrait consists of understanding four types of elements in the chart that interact with each other: the ten planets, the twelve zodiac signs, the twelve houses, and what is called aspects between planets (there are mainly 11 of them that are widely used, the conjunction, the opposition, the square, the trine, the sextile, the quincux, the semisextile, the sesquiquadrate, the quintile and the biquintile, the 5 ones beings the so-called major aspects). The planets represent typologies of the human psychology: sensitivity, affectivity, ability to undertake, will-power, mental set, aptitude and taste for communication etc., all independent character facets are divided here for practical reasons. The twelve signs setting up the space where the planets move will "colour", so to speak, these typologies with each planet being located in a particular sign. They will then enrich the quality of these typologies expressed by the planets. The zodiac is also divided into twelve astrological houses. It only makes sense if the birth time is known because in some minutes, the twelve houses (including the 1st one, the Ascendant) already move fast. They correspond to twelve spheres of life: the apparent behaviour, material, social and family life, relationship, home, love life, daily work, partnership etc. Each planet located in a house will then act according to the meaning of the house, and a second colouration again enriches those active forces that are the planets. Finally, relations will settle between the planets and create a third structure to complete the basic meanings of the planets. A set of ancient rules proven by experience over hundreds of years (astrology is in evolution but only the reliable elements are integrated into the classical studies) are applied to organize the whole into a hierarchy and make possible the interpretation by texts. The planets generally interpreted are the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, including two luminaries (the Sun and the Moon) and 8 planets, 10 bodies in all. Other secondary elements can be taken into account such as the asteroids Chiro, Vesta, Pallas, Ceres (especially Chiro, more well-known), the Lunar nodes, the Dark Moon or Lilith, or even other bodies: astrology is a discipline on the move. Astrological studies, including forecast studies, become more accurate or deepened as time goes on. Precision In accordance with tradition, a planet near the beginning (called cusp) of the next house (less than 4 degrees for the Ascendant and Midheaven, and less than 3 degrees for the other houses) belongs to this house: the texts take this into account in this interactive map of the heavens and in every astrological program.
