Important 'notes':

  • This is the first studio album to contain songs written by Dave Gahan. He wrote the lyrics to "Suffer Well", "I Want It All" and "Nothing's Impossible", along with tour drummer Christian Eigner and Andrew Phillpot, who had helped with his 2003 solo effort "Paper Monsters".
  • Playing the Angel was welcomed by some fans as a return to the form for Depeche Mode. Many felt that the band had finally found itself after losing Alan Wilder in 1995.
