Ultra is Depeche Mode's ninth full album, which was released on April 15, 1997. The album is the first album after the departure of Alan Wilder, who left to focus on his solo efforts. The long time that separates this album from the previous was due to David Gahan's near suicide in August 1995 and recovery from a drug addiction in May 1996, after being declared dead for two minutes.

• This is the only studio album so far to contain a hidden track. It is named "Painkiller" and is heard around1around 1 minute 30 seconds after the end of "Insight".
• This is the only studio album not backed by a tour. Instead the band decided to go on tour the following year on The Singles Tour.
