Speak And Spell's Alan wilder Exclusive (ish!)
Hi folks,
As part of the promotion for our launch show where we'll be performing the entire Violator album plus a best of Mode set Speak and Spell will be interviewed on Brighton's Radio Reverb on Friday May 2nd on the Flux show between 1 and 2 pm GMT. As a special treat for the Mode fans Ive managed to talk the host into what is possibly the first airing (or at least the first airing in nearly 28 years) of Alan Wilders pre-Mode single recorded with the band Real To Real entitled "The Blue". The single was released on Red Shadow Records on October 10th 1980. The front cover of the single features a band photograph where you can see our Alan looking moody with his hands in his pockets, on the back sleeve he is credited with "keyboards and backing vocals". Alan plays a neat little keyboard solo on the track with a cool analogue square wave sound, nice! If time permits I'll try and get the b-side played as well which in my opinion is the better song of the 2. I do also have another 7'' by Real To Real entitled "Mr And Mrs" and it does indeed use a little motif of the theme from the popular TV game show at the time, however, this is non-picture sleeve so I cant confirm for definite if Alan is on this record or not.
To hear this rare Mode gem tune into 97.2 FM if in the Brighton area or visit www.radioreverb.com and click on "listen" at 1pm GMT Friday May 2nd
Thanks, Speak and Spell www.myspace.com/speakandspellband
